August Books is open to receiving direct submissions in the following areas:

Fiction
Historical Adventure

Non-Fiction
History
Popular Culture
Popular Science
Health
True Crime

We do not publish cookery, illustrated books, poetry, short stories or children's books.

Submission Guidelines

Fiction

Please send a one-page synopsis, the whole manuscript and a brief biography to submissions@augustbooks.co

Non-Fiction

Please send a short proposal following the guidelines below to submissions@augustbooks.co

The proposal should be no more than 6 pages long plus a sample chapter, if available. We cannot accept full manuscript submissions without an accompanying proposal. The proposal should respond to the following questions:

  • What is the unique selling point of your book idea?
  • What will the book cover?
  • What other books explore this topic? What’s distinctive about your book in comparison?
  • Tell us why you are the best person to write this book. What qualifications, credentials, awards, connections will you draw on to write or promote the book?
  • Who is this book for? Why might readers be drawn to this book?
  • What are your ambitions for the book? And what are you looking for from a potential publisher?
  • Do you have an imagined table of contents? How will the argument/narrative develop?
  • What is your imagined word count? (Max 120k words)

We will read and respond to every submission we receive within two months but please note, due to the sheer number of submissions we receive, we cannot offer editorial feedback on books that we decide to turn down.
